Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation is given its own video game spin-off in this platformer that takes place in the musical world of 1920s New Orleans.

With computer-animated films such as Toy Story and The Incredibles the new standard for all family films, The Princess and the Frog is a surprising and refreshing return to Disney’s roots of hand-drawn animation. Disney’s video game adaptation sees players assume the role of Princess Tiana herself, with many favourite characters and iconic New Orleans locations from the film remaining firmly intact.

On Nintendo’s DS, The Princess and the Frog takes the form of a platformer that follows the events of the original storyline. Players will have to swing and jump across a series of multi-tiered levels based on the classic New Orleans locations of the film. The beautiful hand-drawn art style of the film remains intact on DS, with animated storybook scenes helping to tell the story.

The Princess and the Frog manages to capture the more traditional throwback feel of Disney’s colourful animated film, letting players follow the events of the film as they play.
